Physiotherapy is for
For any age and all walks of life.
Understanding Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists combine in-depth knowledge of the body with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat various injuries and conditions.
Physiotherapists are part of your primary healthcare team. They play a role in health advocacy, injury prevention and treatment, as well as disability and disease management.
-
Common Practices
Physiotherapy helps address a variety of conditions, including joint pain, muscle strains, orthopedic surgery, neurological conditions, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, sports injuries, general aches and pains, and more.
-
Be Proactive
Physiotherapy can improve your independence, better your balance, improve your mobility and strength. You don’t need to be injured to benefit from physiotherapy.
-
Did You Know?
Physiotherapy can also help you rebuild your activity levels after being sick or while managing the side effects of cancer, diabetes or another chronic health condition.
Detailed
Assessment
Physiotherapy starts with a detailed assessment. Our team takes the time necessary to hear your story and determine what’s going on. The physiotherapist will properly explain your injury and why it’s occurring. Then you will have a conversation about your goals and treatment offerings that may or may not be beneficial to your recovery.
Quality One-On-One
Sessions
Whatever your goals are, one-on-one treatment sessions help you get where you want to be, reducing pain and improving function.
Therapy Options for All
-
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy uses skilled hands-on movements to mobilize joints and apply pressure to muscles to relieve pain and promote recovery.
Manual therapy can include:
joint mobilizations,
passive range of motion,
therapist-assisted stretches,
soft tissue work and massage,
joint traction or distraction, and other strategies.
-
Exercise Prescription
Exercise is an important part of physical rehab and facilitates healing, improves strength and function, and prevents re-injury.
We often do exercises in the clinic to watch and assess how you move, compensate, and tolerate load, which in turn helps us fine-tune exactly what you need to be working on. We may also take you through some of the movements of your sport or hobby to discover where the problem is coming from and how we can make those movements feel better!
Our home exercise programs give you the tools to continue progressing on the days you aren’t in the clinic. We will tailor your exercise program to you, specific to your injury and lifestyle.
-
Acupuncture
Neuro-anatomical acupuncture is the biomedical adaptation of the traditional eastern medicine practice; it’s the insertion of very thin needles into strategic points of the body known as acupuncture points. Acupuncture involves minimal discomfort and can help with local or widespread pain including arthritis, headaches, insomnia, sports injuries and more.
-
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a sought-after technology to ease soft tissue injuries, including tendon disorders, pain and inflammation in orthopedic conditions and plantar fasciitis. Shockwave therapy increases blood flow, accelerates the body’s natural healing process and reduces pain.
This treatment can be mildly uncomfortable, and is often described as an annoying sensation.
-
Cupping
Stemming from ancient Chinese medicine and an effective fascial release technique, cupping uses tissue distraction (suction) to reduce tension in muscle and fascial layers. Cupping quickly increases local blood flow and stretches the layers of tissue as they rise under the cup.
During the procedure, the cups can be left in place for several minutes or used in combination with massage oil to be moved up and down along the tissue. Cupping can be combined with movement or stretches to increase benefits to range of motion, mobility and overall relaxation.
