What is Osteoarthritis (OA)?
Osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee happens when the cartilage of the knee breaks down and space inside the joint decreases. The cartilage is important for shock absorption of the knee joint.
This condition can occur naturally with age, or injuries to the area may also contribute to the progression of OA. If you have OA in the knee, a regular brace probably won't do the trick, you will need something specially tailored to your leg to properly unload the affected side. As seen in the x-ray images below, a significant increase is seen in the joint space after an unloading brace is applied.
