Active rehabilitation for performance athletes, every day enthusiasts, and weekend warriors.

Musculoskeletal injury assessment, management and prevention using a sports medicine model of care.

Your Goals Guide

Whether your “finish line” is the ribbon at the end of a marathon or the mailbox at the end of your driveway, your goals are what matters.

We work with everyday athletes who hike, play with their kids, work physically demanding jobs or play beer league hockey on the weekends, as well as those just wanting to keep moving without pain, regardless of activity level.

Active Rehab, Education and Injury Prevention

Your individualized treatment may include a combination of hands-on joint and soft tissue strategies, exercise therapies, therapeutic modalities and even bracing and/or taping to help you recover and reduce your pain.

Progressive Treatment Approaches

Receive treatment that empowers and educates you to be active and involved in your recovery, plus gives you the skills to prevent injury and manage those niggles moving forward.

Sports or Life-Specific

We put you through the paces of your sport.

For athletes, exercise therapy at Walkerton Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic is designed specifically with your sports demands in mind.

In your initial assessment, you’ll receive a comprehensive movement screening followed by a tailored rehabilitation program with sport-specific strengthening and re-conditioning.

Keep in mind you don’t need to be an athlete to be seen by an athletic therapist. You don’t even need to be active! We will meet you where you’re at and work towards your goals together.

Athletic Therapy vs. Physiotherapy

In a clinical orthopedic setting such as ours, the two practices of athletic therapy and physiotherapy can overlap considerably.

  • Have a larger scope of practice, with expertise in cardiorespiratory and neurological concerns in addition to musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Can pursue further sports injury specialization through continuing education courses if desired. Not all physiotherapists come with an extensive knowledge and skill in sports injury management.

  • Work in a large variety of settings, including hospitals. They are regulated health care professionals and can be rostered to perform controlled acts such as acupuncture.

Physiotherapy

  • Specialize in the prevention, assessment and management of injuries involving joints, muscles, ligaments, bones and more.

  • Can  respond to on-field/ice/court injuries. They are trained in medical emergency management as credentialed First Responders, and also have skills in taping and bracing.

  • Work with teams and individual athletes, but also work with the general public similar to physiotherapists.
